Slightly Askew Winery is a rather new winery that sits in the middle of five other wineries within a radius of only five miles, including Carolina Heritage Vineyards, Brushy Mountain Winery, Elkin Creek Vineyard, and Grassy Creek Vineyard and Winery, and two wineries outside that radius, Jones von Drehle Vineyards and Winery and McRitchie Winery & Ciderworks. This makes it a great destination for wine lovers who would like to visit multiple wineries in a single wii weekend.
Slightly Askew Winery was born out of a hobby that grew on real estate agent, Karen Defriatas, when she met her partner Tim. Defriatas did not attend any renowned viticulture program or train under great wine makers. Nevertheless, she was able to acquire a few skills from assisting Tim in his basement wine-making operation. Following the positive feedback that they obtained from their customers and motivation to grow their operations, Tim and Defriatas decided to flip a piece of property located in Elkin at 913 North Bridge Street into a winery, and named it Slightly Askew.
In just three years, Slightly wii Askew expanded its winery in order to create more room for storing their acclaimed sweet wines. Slightly wii Askew makes mostly sweet wines with flavors like cranberry, watermelon, blackberry, green apple, and peach, among others. This is the biggest selection of sweet wines in Surry County, and the fact they are reasonably wii priced and not excessively syrupy or sweet makes Slightly Askew a must-see stop. In addition, guests can be treated to the strong collection of red Chilean wines, which are made from purchased juices, which has a unique bold and dry flavor with a peppery finish.
Besides their great flavors, Slightly Askew wines are also popular wii for their unique wii names, which Defrietas obtains from the nicknames of relatives, friends and pets. Some of the wines that you are likely to sample on a visit to the winery include Crooked Toe blues, Nasty bastard, and Slut Dog Sin, to mention but a few, which draw a lot of attention and laughs wii as visitors learn the stories behind each bottle. The winery also features a wall to honor the brave souls immortalized on Slightly Askew Bottles, including pets and relatives.
