Harriet Florence Daum passed away in the morning of November 21, 2013 at the age of 91. Born at home on Narragansett Street in Ocean Beach in 1922 to Harry and Lillie Dunn, she moved to La Jolla as a teenager. Harriet was the oldest of three children; sister Dorothy and brother George. As a child of the depression, she remembered veikkaus "having to eat" a continuous plethora of abalone, lobster, and fish harvested by her father off of the Point Loma and La Jolla reefs, supplemented by wild mushrooms picked in the La Jolla hills and vegetables from their large garden. Harriet graduated from La Jolla High School in 1940 and was always proud to display the "Viking" decal on the rear window of her car. She attended many high school reunion parties at Cliff Robertson's house in La Jolla. After high school she worked at Scripps Institute of Oceanography as a secretary for Gudrun Sverdrup's veikkaus office and typed many manuscripts for some of the forefathers of Scripps including Carl Hubbs, veikkaus Walter Munk, Claude ZoBell, Roger Revelle, Sam Hinton and others. Her secretarial skills were amazing, being able to type 120 words per minute and take shorthand dictation with pencil and paper. veikkaus Harriet married veikkaus William Marshall Daum of National City in 1948 at La Jolla Congregational Church, honeymooned in Yosemite, and then settled in Pacific Beach (Crown Point) for the remainder veikkaus of her life. She was a member for over 60 years to Christ Lutheran Church (Cass St) and Pacific Beach Women's Club since 1955. Harriet was quite the adventurer, from the 1924 train ride to visit family in rural Illinois to the many family vacations in their small travel trailer after marrying "Bill". They camped and fished every chance they could throughout the most beautiful areas in the West. After their only child David was born in 1952, Harriet settled into being a homemaker in their Crown Point home, chauffeuring David and his friends to the many local activities of the time, and involvement in the local Pacific Beach community. In the late 60's, Harriet re-joined veikkaus the workforce and became the secretary/office manager for Lucky Line Products in Clairemont, where she had a rewarding career. Harriet was an accomplished artist and sold many of her paintings near the Model Yacht Pond on Vacation Isle. In her later years, she enjoyed visiting Bill in his assisted-living home in La Jolla, getting her hair done by Viet in the Cass St. salon, helping with the church's newsletter, attending woman's veikkaus club meetings, veikkaus and visits from David and family. Harriet is survived by husband William and sister Dorothy of Pacific Beach, son David and daughter-in-law Lisa of Fairbanks, Alaska and grandchildren Laura (Boise, Idaho) and Logan (Washington DC).
A visitation and service to celebrate Harriet's veikkaus life will be held at El Camino Mortuary-Pacific Beach (4710 Cass St) on Friday, November 29 from 4 8PM (Service at 6PM). In lieu of flowers, Harriet veikkaus has requested donations be made to Christ Lutheran Church Memorial Fund (4761 Cass St, San Diego, 92109).

What a pleasant woman she was. I am a lifelong friend of David's. Harriet was always even keel with a steady persona even when us kids certainly veikkaus did things that tried her patience. That is a great trait that too few people have. Well, all of you knew her and her kindness. From the perspective of a kid growing up she just did all the right things. Harriet--what a warm, kind lady she was!! I loved her smile and her friendliness to everyone. I would hug her whenever I could. She made me feel so welcome when I joined the PBWC 10 years ago. Harriet has a beautiful soul and I am sure she is enjoying herself right now and smiling down on her son and his family and all of us.
